Episode 84: How to Cancel Your Psychology Today Profile

Show Notes

Welcome back to the designer practice podcast and I’m your host Kayla Das.

Now, if you’ve been following me for a while, you know that I’m a huge proponent of therapists having a Psychology Today profile, because I think it’s a great passive marketing tool to grow your practice.

However, there may come a time when you want to cancel your Psychology Today profile, whether it be that it’s not working for you anymore, your practice is full, or maybe you’re just no longer looking for referrals.

Whatever the reason, knowing how to cancel your profile is essential.

And I’m going to tell you from experience, it isn’t as clear cut as you would think. But fortunately, I’m going to tell you how to do it today.

So let me give you a little bit of a backstory.

This past summer, I canceled my Psychology Today profile because as a business coach, my ideal clients, which are you therapists are simply not on Psychology Today, searching for business coaches.

And I didn’t feel that it was worth continuing paying $30 plus per month, when it wasn’t an effective marketing strategy for my business coaching practice. So, I decided to cancel the subscription.

However, when I went to my profile dashboard, expecting to be able to easily cancel through some sort of cancellation button, I realized there wasn’t one there.

So, I had to do a little bit of digging to learn how to cancel my subscription.

Interestingly enough, after searching through the Psychology Today help center, I couldn’t find a specific article to tell me how to cancel my profile. I was so perplexed, to say the least.

But after searching through different help center articles, I did find an address that seemed to be an appropriate address for me to email. So, I emailed it requesting to cancel my subscription and it was quickly canceled.

So even though today’s episode is super, super short, I did want to bring you through the process I took to cancel my subscription and what you can expect to see if you decide to cancel yours.

Okay, so now let’s get into the steps on how you can cancel your Psychology Today profile.

First, you can actually just email [email protected] from ideally the email that you currently use for your profile, with a very simple subject line saying, cancel my subscription.

Then you can add a one to two sentence request in the body of the email, just sharing your desire to cancel.

When I did it, almost immediately, I received an automated reply from Psychology Today confirming that they received my email and will get in contact as soon as possible.

For me, I actually heard back from them later that evening. I received a second email confirming that my subscription will be canceled before my monthly renewal date, which in my case was actually going to be two days later.

Then, the evening before my renewal date, I received another email confirming that my Psychology Today profile was taken down and that there will be no future charges on my account.

So, a very simple process of being able to cancel your Psychology Today profile, but I felt I needed to do this episode today because knowing how to do it wasn’t clear cut. So, I just wanted to make sure that anyone out there who is looking to cancel their Psychology Today profile knows the steps and what to expect if they do so.

Before I end today’s episode, I want to add a shameless plug. If you’re considering cancelling your Psychology Today profile because you’re not getting clients, I want you to just keep listening before you cancel your profile.

Although it’s possible that your ideal client just isn’t on Psychology Today, like mine. However, if your clients are on Psychology Today, it may actually be that you haven’t optimized your profile to the fullest of its potential.
