FOMO (fear of missing out) can actually cause therapists to miss out on creating a client connection and getting paying clients in their private practice.

Fear of missing out on client experiences can prevent therapists from marketing themselves through the eyes of the client which in turn creates connection. When FOMO shows up, so does the pesky thought, “If I don’t show that I work with everyone, I’ll miss out on opportunities!”

This isn’t actually true and let me explain why.

High-performing therapist directory profiles often capture clients’ struggles, needs and desires. When a prospective client sees this in your profile, it creates an instant connection because they think to themselves “Wow! This person is reading my mind!” or “This person gets me!”

Clients who have these thoughts reach out and become paying clients.

Whereas, profiles that speak in generalities can leave the client feeling indifferent about the profile and they continue to search other profiles, bringing them further and further away from contacting.

Create a Connection with Your Psychology Today Profile

When your profile reflects your clients’ struggles, needs and desires it allows you to stand out and get noticed!

You may be thinking, “Yeah, but I want to work with more than one type of client.”

A common FOMO misconception is that by speaking to a single client, you’ll only attract one type of client.

This isn’t the case. Let me share an example:

In my private practice, I typically work with clients experiencing workplace stress. My profile speaks directly to the struggles, needs and desires of this type of client. But I frequently receive calls from clients who experience relationship issues, family stress, and other types of non-workplace stress.

Why does this happen?

Because these struggles, needs and desires are not mutually exclusive. You do not necessarily exclude clients by speaking to one client – you actually speak to more.

*Mind blown*

Also, humans are complex. When we have one struggle it can actually lead into multiple issues in our lives. So, when clients come to you for one struggle, they may actually be coming with multiple. This provides you with more opportunities to help them.

Don’t let FOMO pigeonhole you any longer. Your clients are waiting to come across your profile and say “Wow! This person gets me!”

We both know that you do get them! But they may not know this yet. So let them know it ?

Please connect with me and let me know when you begin to create a client connection with your Psychology Today profile. I would love to know!
