A Psychology Today profile is an amazing marketing tool but it’s not a one-and-done project.

Profiles are meant to be dynamic and ever-changing.

And your prospective clients can actually see if you’ve been updating your profile or not.

How can prospective clients see updates on your profile?

There is a last modified date at the bottom of each therapist profile on Psychology Today. Of course, the date isn’t the first thing a prospective client sees but it’s definitely visible.

A profile that has a longer last modified date can signal to your prospective client that the profile is out-of-date and it can have them question whether they should reach out to you or not.

Okay, you may be thinking, “Come on Kayla, prospective clients don’t notice the last modified date.”

You’re right, some prospective clients may not even scroll down the page that far; however, some do and this can send the wrong message to those who do.

But there’s another (potential) benefit to updating your Psychology Today profile.

There are rumours around the virtual watercooler that Psychology Today strategically promotes therapists who update their profile regularly on their first few pages.

Is this true?

I don’t know. It’s completely unverified — but people swear by it! However, if there’s even an ounce of truth to it, it could drastically increase your client reach and make the most out of your subscription.

Now, I’m not saying that you need to update your Psychology Today profile daily or to make drastic changes. What I’m saying is that by updating your profile, ever so slightly, every few weeks to a month, keeps your profile fresh and up-to-date!

I’m challenging you to check out your Psychology Today profile (without signing in to your account) and see the last time you’ve updated your profile.

Me? I’ve updated my profile within the last month and I do this regularly because, if the rumours are true, I want to get the biggest bang for my buck!
